Bruce has spent 40years in the classroom in Victorian Primary and Independent Schools, as well as time in Papua New Guinea and Shanghai in the People’s Republic of China.
His teaching career began when he was accepted to teach in Papua New Guinea. After completing a short training course in Rabaul, he then taught in village Primary Schools for 2 years. On his return to Australia, Bruce completed his formal Teacher Training at Melbourne Teachers College. Following this he then went onto further study and completed a Bachelor of Arts at Swinburne University and a Master of Educational Studies at Monash University as a mature age, part-time student.
During his years in the classroom he has taught all levels in Primary School and Years 7 and 8 English and Social Science in Independent Schools. In 2006, he undertook a 2 year contract to teach English at Shanghai Eastern Cao Yang Foreign Language High School in Shanghai.
Bruce came to XJS School in 2001, and teaches Year 6 English and Writing. During his time at the School he has continued his interest in curriculum development, his major study at Monash University and practiced during his time in Independent Schools; by reviewing and writing the current Primary English curriculum.
When not in the classroom Bruce enjoys reading, music, pursuing his interests in conservation and travel.
