Unexpected by Emily Shang

I never knew that this slight moment would lead to a fortune of luck.

I woke up to the brightness and the warmness of the sun shining onto my bright, blue eyes. Tired and useless, I kicked the blanket off my bed, groaned and squeezed my foot into my delicate, silky, bunny slippers and forced the muscles on my leg to stand up, until the yelling of my dad's voice from downstairs frightened my eardrums.
“You are going to be late! Chop, chop you ding-dong!!!" He yelled at the top of his lungs.
"I wish mum was here," I muttered to myself quietly.
My beautiful mum died at the start of this year because unfortunately, she had skin cancer. Now that my mum is not here, my dad treats me so terribly that I just think that I can't continue my life journey anymore.
When I got downstairs, my dad SMACKED me on my rosy, red cheeks then yelled right in my face: “you could've been quicker!"
I dashed to the chair near the stove still holding the tears in me then grabbed my bag and went out the door to not be causing any trouble. It was 7:54am and my school starts at 8:45am, which means I was way too early to go to school.
Then the place I went to rather than school was a sitting bench in the park. There, I sat and cried like what felt like an hour until I realized it was 8:30am and quickly rushed to my school.
When I was up to the school gate I felt really light, almost like I'd forgotten something.
"Ummm, Ava where is your bag?"
I bolted to the park bench not knowing who said that and luckily my bag was still there. Out of breath, I bolted back to the school and went to class.
My class all lined up outside the performing arts center and waited for Mrs. Linita to call us in.
After she called us in, Mrs. Linita told us to sing the chorus of "what about us".
    Suddenly... it was my turn.
I sang all my might out and my feelings out. All my thoughts and all my heart.
    “What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
    What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
    What about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love? What about trust?
    What about us?"
She was so surprised by my voice that she let me sing again. So I did but what she did after that is never to be forgotten.

I got famous, and my dad... he is in another whole, new world. And me... Ava Max, I will never forget that moment of my life, NEVER!
