Suitable for students in Year 4 at day schools
Year 4 English
In Year 4, students are expected to further develop their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in their English classes. Each unit is focused on one type of writing style. Starting from reading the sample passage of a specific writing style, students are expected to extract the main idea of the passage, figure out the point view of the author and learn the grammars and sentence structures in the passage by doing active in-class discussions and exercises. Apart from face-to-face learning commitment at school, students are also required to do some homework to consolidate what they have learnt on weekends. In the Semester 2 of Year 4, students are supposed to read an English novel under the instruction of their teachers to enlarge their vocabulary and develop the habit of reading regularly.
Year 4 Math
Students in Year 4 Math classes will keep on consolidate their skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and make a further effort in the application and calculation involving fractions and decimals. Issues of chances and data will also be further observed. They are also expected to have further understanding in space, length, area, volume, mass, temperature and time stimulated by everyday-life topics. In addition, students will keep on learning how to solve math problems by applying strategies and problem-solving skills. Apart from face-to-face learning commitment at school, students are also required to do some homework to consolidate what they have learnt on weekends.
Basic Writing 1 (基础写作1)
The purpose of Basic Writing 1 is to help students develop the interest of reading and writing. One type of writing will be discussed within the time of 1-3 sessions when students are given the freedom to choose their favorite topics related to their daily lives. Group discussions will be held to encourage students to talk about what they want to say in a relaxed environment before writing them down on the paper. The process of question-and-answer during the discussion will also help students develop a clearer idea about what to write. Other in-class activities such as peer review and presentation will then encourage students learn from each other, make efforts to try their best in writing and build some self-confidence.
